Ann
Hazard — Author and Travel Writer
Ann
is author of the books, Cooking With Baja Magic, Cartwheels in
the Sand and Agave Sunsets, is a writer who is passionate
about all things Mexican. She’s a third generation Baja Aficionada who
has followed her father and grandfather’s footsteps up and down the world’s
longest peninsula since she was nine. She, her sister and parents flew
in converted World War II cargo planes, landing on dirt roads in obscure
places. The family also took to the roads (dirt, usually) in their camper
and stayed at deserted beaches and in lush palm oases where they were the
only gringos around.
Since
then, Ann has traveled throughout Mexico. While she enjoys the resorts,
she has a strong affinity for the Mexican people and a deep abiding appreciation
for the country, its history, culture, cuisine and geography. In October
2003 she and Terry sold their homes in the US and Baja norte and relocated
to Buena Vista, Baja California Sur (between La Paz and Los Cabos) where
they travel, write, shoot photos, swim, snorkel, kayak, play and entertain
more houseguests than they could have ever imagined!
A graduate
of U.S. International University in San Diego, CA, Ann spent the first
two decades of her career in human resources and corporate communications.
In addition to writing, publishing and promoting her books, Agave Sunsets,
Cooking With Baja Magic and Cartwheels in the Sand, she has also written
about Mexico, raising kids and single parenting.
Cooking
With Baja Magic, Ann’s first book, was released in late 1997. Cartwheels
in the Sand was published in 1999. Agave Sunsets came out in
2002. She has been featured at more than 85 book signing events, lectures
and food demonstrations throughout California and Baja. She has taught
cooking classes in San Diego, Los Angeles, Rosarito, Cabo, Ecomundo at
Bahía Concepción and San Felipe. She was the kickoff speaker
for the San Diego Natural History Museum’s “Baja by the Book” lecture series
in 1999. She has also been a guest on radio shows around the U.S.
Ann's
books have been favorably reviewed or featured by the following
publications:
San Diego Magazine, San Diego Union-Tribune, North County
Times, Gringo Gazette, Los Cabos News, Reno Air Approach, the Bay Area’s
Diablo Magazine, Independent Publisher, Baja Life, Carnival Cruise’s Currents
Magazine, San Diego Writers’ Monthly (which featured Cartwheels as
its “Best Unpublished Novel of the Month” in August, 1998), The Baja
Sun, The Baja Tourist Guide, Western Outdoor News, England’s Succulent
Plant Trust Newsletter, The Cactus Head Review, Baja Traveler Magazine
and
other online and print publications in the U.S.
Ann is
a regular contributor to the travel webzine JustSayGo.com
and PR Liaison for Buena Vista Beach
Resort in Baja California Sur. She has written numerous articles for
the San Diego Union-Tribune, Baja Traveler Magazine, the Coast News,
the Baja Tourist Guide, Discover Baja, Sister Cities Magazine,The Mexico
File and Los Cabos Magazine. October 2004 marked the second
year she has written the copy for Coastal Living Magazine's
special Los Cabos Section. She is currently writing a bi-monthly column
for Discover Los Cabos called "Living La Buena Vida" and working
with Terry to develop content for the East Cape and Todos Santos sections
of LosCabosGuide.com. She wrote all
website copy and provided weekly cooking features for MexGrocer.com
for two years and did all website copy and additional promotional writing
for Foxploration, Fox Studios Baja’s
movie-making park in Rosarito. She is a member of Mexico Writers' Alliance,
Los Cabos Public Relations Association, North American Travel Writers’
Association and acts as a volunteer Expert on AllExperts.com.

Terry
Hauswirth — Photographer
PHOTOGRAPHS
OF MEXICO PUBLISHED
Since
2003
Terry Hauswirth became a photographer
in 1998 on a trip to the Mayan Riviera with Ann. A good friends of theirs,
Antonio Cristerna—an award-winning Mexican photographer—took the two of
them on a tour of the Yucatan peninsula. At that time Ann had published
two books and was beginning to delve into magazine and newspaper writing.
Since her clients requested photos to go with her stories, they had just
purchased their first digital camera. Terry and Antonio had identical cameras
and shot photos together for three days. By Day Two, Antonio was copying
Terry’s photos onto his camera because he said Terry’s were better. Terry
then discovered that he had “the eye.”
After that, his new career
as a photojournalist took off and Ann realized she had the perfect partner.
Terry’s work has been published in Coastal Living Magazine, San Diego Union-Tribune,
Baja Traveler Magazine, Sister Cities Magazine, Pacific Coast Sportfishing,
Baja Tourist Guide, The Coast News, RV Companion Magazine and on numerous
Baja and travel websites.
Please note: Unless otherwise
noted, all photographs listed below were published to go with articles
